‘Frozen’ to be nominated for best animated film at Oscars

“Frozen” is the newest animated film to be made for the Oscars.

The film, starring Idina Menzel, is due to premiere in cinemas on Feb. 24.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Friday that the film, which is based on Disney’s “Fantasia: The Musical” and stars Kristen Bell, Idina Manjoo, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage, Tessa Thompson, and Chris Hemsworth, will be nominated in five categories for Best Animated Feature, Best Original Song, Best Soundtrack, Best Cinematography and Best Music.

The film is nominated in two of the four other categories.

“Frozen,” which opened in theaters on Jan. 23, was nominated in all five categories.

The Oscar nominations come as the film is gearing up for its Feb. 20 premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival.

The animated film, based on the classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, is a Disney animated feature that follows a snow queen and her sister, Elsa, as they travel through the land of Arendelle.
