Juan Carlos Paredes died at 89, his official Facebook page confirmed.
Born in Mexico in 1936, Parede grew up in Tijuana, Mexico, and attended college in Los Angeles.
He was a founding member of the legendary Mexican rock band Los Lobos, and also performed in Mexico.
Paredes was well known for his distinctive voice, which was often accompanied by a wisecrack about the band’s name, “Los Lobos.”
Parededes is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joaquín, three sons, Juan Carlos and Luis Paredez, and nine grandchildren.
Piedes was preceded in death by his brother, Antonio Pareder, who died in 2002 at the age of 92.
